But, just for a minute, let's pretend it is. (Also, does it bug anyone else when people spell it "hippy"?)
I've always had problem skin. It breaks out, it's oily, it's dry, it's red, it's flaky, it's sensitive. Sounds attractive, huh? I know, I have to beat men off with a stick. Anyway, having acne prone skin, it was drilled into my head to ONLY use oil free products EVER. I grew up thinking oil was the devil. So when I heard about oil cleansing, it sounded like the worst idea ever.
But I read more and more about it. It intrigued me. So I got all the supplies, waited until after my wedding in May, and gave it a shot.
Well, now I'm using oil to wash my face, oil to treat my breakouts, oil to moisturize, and honey as a mask. Soon I'll be wearing bell bottoms and ironing my hair and singing about peace, hope, and free love while spinning in circles in the grass, barefoot.
I use a mixture of castor oil, jojoba oil, and grapeseed oil to cleanse. I rub it on my dry face, wet a washcloth with hot water, drape it over my face and let it sit until it cools to room temp. Then I rub the remaining oil on my face in again, and repeat the wash cloth until I get bored. Then the oil just wipes right off. I swipe on a little diluted tea tree oil, and moisturize with jojoba oil when necessary. In the mornings, rinse with warm water and my Olay face brush thinger (like a cheaper version of the Clarisonic). Twice a week, raw honey as a mask in the shower, followed up with some jojoba oil.
My face is less dry, less flaky, less break out-y, less red, and less oily. It is smooth. I still have break outs, but they're not as bad. My pores look smaller.
I'm about as shocked as you are.
The best part? I'm still using the same small bottles of oil I bought back in May. So cheap. And my face is so happy to not be subject to harsh chemicals.
So, there's your PSA from Crunch-ville.
I have an issue with acne too. I've been using witch hazel and it's working a little. Where do you buy your castor oil, jojoba oil, and grapeseed oil?
ReplyDeleteI get the tea tree oil (worked way better than witch hazel for me!) from Target, and the rest on Amazon. You could also probably find them at a nicer grocery like Whole Foods, but we don't have those here.
DeleteI started oil cleansing last month. I, as well, am shocked. My skin is all "hey, thanks. This is better." then I try to tell people about it, and they look at me like I'm a moron. Whatever. Have sad ugly skin. I don't care.
ReplyDeleteYes. Or I get the "Oh, that's.....INTERESTING," while they barely disguise their facial expression that clearly says "Interestingly STUPID!" Their loss, pretty much.
